Edinburgh

The city is built upon volcanic rock (crags) which makes the terrain very steep and the valleys between the crags very narrow. People have built on top of the crags and on the sides that are not too steep. Some of the streets remind me of Seattle running down to the water front. Today we have a mundane task--laundry. I found a person at an internet calfe who will show me how to create a slide show on the blog and how to get the pictures so you won't have to see some of them sideways. The people in Ireland and Scotland are very friendly. If they hear us talking about directions or locations, they will stop and help us. The bus drivers in Edinburgh, however, drive very roughly--quick acceleration and speed which sends the passengers stumbling down the aisle. I feel sorry for old people because bus drivers rapidly accelerate before they even have a chance to get to a post or seat. We have ridden enough busses to make the generalization that many bus drivers need to take a course in courtesy driving. Thursday we are off to York by rail to see the largest Gothic Cathedral in England, the walled city and the Viking ruins.
